Ryan Adams and the MP3 blog
I gotta say, I’m not really one for covers of classics unless they really are better than the original. Ryan Adams’ version of Wonderwall is simply amazing and much more in line with my own music tastes. There is a point to this post, because I found the track through an audioblog. I wanted to highlight the growth of “MP3 blogs” and how the Web really has provided the best promotional platform for music.
I know that the depth of my music tastes has widened to unknown artists and different genres because of constant exposure to different music. My gig tickets and albums are brought through the web and I myself promote music I like. There’s no sense in the notion that the web or music fans are a threat to the industry so keep your freeze dried pop, we have it going on so please, join in.
Some very clever artists have seen the light and released tracks for free on their sites as promotion material, some from their own CD’s. .If only everyone thought this way eh? Some dedicated music lovers have set up sites to promote these free files and encourace you to purchase the CD, direct from the artist if possible, if you like what you hear. Some major labels have released their music for use in Podcasts. It’s not about ripping anyone off at all, although finding a new path to your music that doesn’t involve the big boys is always going to cause friction.
Find an MP3 blog and discover music that you wouldn’t have otherwise bumped into.
