5.1 Sound and Bluetooth headphones
So after getting the new PC way back towards the end of last year and having it have a surround sound card, I thought why not buy some speakers for it eh? After agonising over which set to buy I went for the Logitech X530 set at about £40 it was a bargin. The bass is astounding, in fact when I turned it up to full I had an earthquake alert in my email from the Sandwich Islands.
Fully installed and working I set about playing with surround sound MP3’s, and I have got a Katie Melua DVD with 5.1 mix into a fully function surround sound MP3 file and it sounds top class.
I had a Freeview set top box for Christmas so the sound from that is hooked up to my line in, it gets interesting because a plugin for Winamp lets me enhance the sound from the TV and add effects to it. I can of course record the sound too, via an MP3 plugin, handy for recording and pausing the live radio stations that stream over Freeview.
Wireless audio on the go
It gets even more interesting when I add the wireless headphones to the mix, because now I have access to all my live internet radio stations, music, TV output, DVD sound and external MP3 players … on the go with no wires. The range of the Logitech bluetooth headphones starts to break up when I’m downstairs but only if I move towards the kitchen. Winamp is central to this because it handles the mixing of the audio and when the house phone rings the volume is automatically turned down. I’m planning on hooking my mobile phone to winamp to use as a remote control.
So I’m all set now, too much technology? Perhaps but very fun to maximse potential, and it’ll be nice in the summer to listen to internet radio or DAB radio in the shade or just inside from the patio, without dragging around anything other than the headphones! Imagine washing the car at 5pm too
