Petrol : Don’t Panic
Well I didn’t think it would be as bad as it was, North Birmingham has been hard hit by panic buying of Petrol. I filled up yesterday not out of forward planning, I doubt I’ll be filling up for another week and a half perhaps a little more, which is normal for me. ADSA just off the M6 here had a queue for petrol going back about 600 yards and then some as it snaked into the actual forecourt. Sutton Coldfield has a station closed due to lack of fuel. The queues are so bad I’m finding myself considering petrol stations as being hazards, therefore slowing down or changing lane on approach just incase there is a tailback.
“Organisers of the protest, which is planned to start at 6am on Wednesday, said they would not be organising a repeat of blockades which brought Britain to a standstill in 2000. ‘I strongly urge against blockades,’ said Andrew Spence, from the protest group Fuel Lobby.” Source
Firstly this protest isn’t about car drivers, secondly public transport gets taxed as much as a car driver and thridly many transport companies can’t compete with Europe, because Deisel is so expensive, petrol just caught it up that’s all.
From what I have read, there are two mindsets forming with the protests, those who will take abrasive action and those who just want to make their point without disruption. From what I have heard in the media there is no panic buying, yet all around here there are queues and pumps out of action.
How crazy is it that the chaos could be caused by word of mouth alone? Whatever happens they don’t have my support because this is how I see the future panning out and you can’t argue about something you can’t change. Get on with it, higher demand is part of the peak oil issue, many agree we are at peak now, some say we still have another 5 years, then these concerns we are having this week will seem laughable.
