Headache for those designing for IE6

Wednesday, June 29th, 2005

An Announcement from Microsoft rolling up support for Windows 2000 and why this is bad news for Web Developers who design foo IE6 because of its install base (number of users). We, that is the devlopers and companies who refuse to move away from IE, might soon have to choose which version of IE to develop for and my gut feeling is that even though IE7 will fix some issues, many developers will stick with IE6 :(

Heat, Drought Back Haunting Europe on First Day of Summer

Thursday, June 23rd, 2005

“With tens of thousands of deaths in a sizzling summer of 2003 still fresh on people’s minds, Europe suffered in a new heat wave the first day of summer, while farmers warned of a historic drought. ”

Flash floods in Yorkshire after Sunday’s extreme heat.

Real Feel 41oC

Sunday, June 19th, 2005

Physcologically this is it, this is summer, in Britian we were in May and it felt almost like winter, June started quite dismal too, and this weekend a mini heatwave has hit, meaning that now everyone is suddenly in the supermarkets grabbing summer stuff, jeans are out shorts are in, sunscreen for the kids, baby oil for the parents, am I missing something? Party for my nephew was really fun although I don’t get on with the heat at all so I had a very flakey day, will try and get some pictures up, but I’m shattered now.

Drops of Jupiter

Sunday, June 19th, 2005

Last night I saw Jupiter through my back yard telescope, something I never thought I’d see for myself, with my own eyes :) To the naked eye it looks like a star but through the scope, although small I could see the cloud bands in the northern and southern hemispheres.

Californian Aftershocks Numbering Hundreds

Thursday, June 16th, 2005

Call me strange but this is something that Sky News isn’t reporting :

“Russian scientists are reporting today that the massive space blast that occurred on June 12th causing a near simultaneous Solar Eruption and an earthquake in the United States California Region has been followed by an even larger blast causing a giant earthquake in […]

Summer Shakes : 7.9 Quake

Tuesday, June 14th, 2005

Soho is offline. A CCD Bakeout on the satelite that watches the centre of our universe (the sun) and then a CME passes our planet we get a huge quake, anybody connecting the dots here? Quake, not only in Southern California (5.6) …erp, but also today just before leaving work I read about a 7.9 Quake in Northern Chile. Interesting but can we take into consideration that the engine of our weather (our sun) is spluttering sneezing and that the planet we inhabit is changing rapidly on its own accord as its supposed to.

Nokia on the fence : semantic war

Monday, June 13th, 2005

Nokia are playing the browser war smartly, the aim I assume is to get the best browser engine for the mobile market, currently lead by a little company from Norway, who are behind the Opera web browser. After getting involved with Opera, Nokia annouced plans to fully investigate a light but fully functional version of the Firefox web browser. Now it seems that Apple is pushing a version of KHTML for mobile content delivery. So with the iPaq packing more power (600Mhz) than my parent’s desktop PC how long will Pocket IE keep mobile web developers in the dark? Can the likes of Symbian/Nokia Opera/Firefox/Safari shine some light into the dim world of the IE only web developer?

Moving story

Saturday, June 11th, 2005

If ever we needed a reason to stem the rising incidence of Melanoma skin cancers (of which there are many deadly forms), this saddly is a reminder of why it’s such a worrisome cancer, why it’s such a problem and why we should take skin cancer more seriouly than we currently do.
