You See Colours

"You See Colours" by Delays

One of my favourite bands, recently have been banned from Radio One for being too Melodic. Their second studio album holds some truly awsome tracks. I'm currently getting lost in their melody to the tune of "Given Away", oh yes it's summer and it's the Delays.

"So take the photographs, and still frames in your mind. Hang it on a shelf, In good health and good time. Tattoos of memories, and dead skin on trial.

For what it's worth, it was worth all the while."

Comments disabled, new site comming

July 7th, 2006

Recently I’ve been drowned by comment spam to the tune of 8,000 comments, all with about 30 links per comment. I hate this kind of spam and it has completely clogged everyones comments. I can’t bulk delete the whole lot because it will get rid of so many wonderful comments left by visitors.

However, I’m trying really hard behind the scenes to bring version 2 of this site upto speed, I’m creating my own custom theme and exploring some new ways of displaying photos and doing podcasts.

Normal service will be resumed shortly.

Biopsy Result and a chest X-Ray?

June 20th, 2006

I was at hospital today to get results of biopsy on a mole. It’s fine, histology was clean. Atypical moles like this one are very hard to tell apart from actual melanoma and that’s where siascopy can really give an advantage as these moles raise enough doubt for a biopsy to take place. It was a mole I had scaned with the Siascope and the Siascan said it was fine, so the products work and should be used to save biposy of everything under the sun! Seriously I now have a big scar, just because the only tool my consultant had was a histology report.

However
Because yeah nothing is that simple! While having an all over check for enlarged lymph nodes (lumps) the consultant spent a lot of time on my right arm pit and in that general area. My face was one of shock when I was sent for a chest X-Ray. While in the X-Ray dept, dad asked if he could put the Germany game on. The TV was detuned and had no real signal, so he steped on a chair to fix it, the receptionist said he could have a scan if he fell off the chair.

Chest X-Ray’s basically are a way of checking that the lungs are ok. I’m encouraged because he said the nodes in my arm pit were fine so I suspect the scan is just to be safe. I hadn’t rated the one on my arm as being any kind of threat because it was much thinner than the one on my leg. It’s suprising to me that I still have my lymph nodes, but I really had thought my arm wouldn’t cause any problems.

This sucks big time, but it can keeping sucking big time as long as the scans are clear and so on. It should be fine and it’s good these scans do happen. I said from the start of this, it could always be worse, so I’m lucky it’s not and that is still true today.

Fan Park : Birmingham’s world cup area

June 13th, 2006

Located just outside of millenium point in Birmingham is an area set up for footie fans to see world cup matches on the big screen. It is a really neat idea, a controlled environment should mean that there is little trouble, but there’s much more to it than that as you’ll see from this photo post.

Non England games are free entry and because Brum has a fair few communites dotted about the place, even for the smallest netutral game, there is usually some supporters who turn up to cheer their team on. The following photos give an idea of the kinds of things which are down there and how show what a great idea it actually is, as screens up and down the country are being turned off due to crowd trouble.

Another Radio 5 invite!

June 3rd, 2006

I’m on BBC Radio 5 tonight, talking about if people are listening to the skin cancer message, if it’s working etc and if people are being forgetful. Also I hope to be scoping over the stuff about the sun protection being just half of the story and actually one of the more important things to focus on is getting people to spot the signs , having doctors keep a record of any skin changes and so all that information and awareness can be used get it dealt with early on before it starts running amok.

Tune in 22:10!

[Edit @ 22:15]
Interview moved to 23:40

Tornado spotted over Lancashire

May 25th, 2006

Recently UK weather has been threatening to give a few tornadoes, see below for the latest sighting.

“The Met Office has confirmed the weather in the Hutton area was “conducive to tornadoes” at the weekend although it had not received any reports of unusual weather conditions in the area.” Source

This coming only a few days after we had the most violent clap of thunder I have probably ever heard around here. The storm that was over our house eventually destroyed the home of an old lady a few miles down the road.

Bank holiday sun

May 25th, 2006

The weather recently has been far from sunny, however I just found this charming little story from England:

“‘Because I took my holidays in the UK, I would never have thought I was in a high risk category,’ said Lee Jordan, web designer. ‘I was shocked to discover how far the melanomas had progressed by the time the doctors looked at them. Young people in particular need to be aware that there is an easy way to get their skin checked for this most dangerous of diseases.’” Source

It’s then typical that the weather is rather wet and dull! But seriously the UV Index is creeping up, while focusing on sun protection for your summer holiday, bear in mind the dangers of the pub lunch, or the gardening, or the journey on the sunny side of a train, or chosing to wear shorts not jeans ….. and on and on. Then of course comes mole watch.
