Just a quick blog post this one, over Easter we’ve had a few powercuts in Walsall. I returned home Easter Sunday to a dream type scene, of no traffic and no traffic lights either! Upon getting home there was no power to the appartment complex either and alarms going off. Like something from 28 Yams Later!
The power was off for 4 hours, taking with it my water supply too, I live in what’s effectivly known as Townend and the edge of Birchills/Wisemore/Pleck, yet Green Lane onwards seemed to be unaffected. Reading up on my social media streams I noticed a few reports in Beechdale of powercuts, but these seemed to last only for 10 minutes and on the flickr photo I uploaded (when the power came back on) a friend had posted that it had been happening all weekend. I did manage to get a tweet out by mobile phone, that was re-teweeted by @WalsallCouncil.

Though an inconvenience it shows us how much trouble we might be in if we don’t invest in the future of our energy supply away from natural gas and coal. If this hashtag gets popular when peak oil really hits us; I said it first “#ukpower WS2 0/10” :)
