My @media2006 experience
This was my very first @media and I didn’t really have any expectations about what the two days in Westminster might bring. What the conference brought was really inspiring and some of the topics really introduced me to stuff I would have perhaps just overlooked. There were some quality presentations and panel discussions by some of the most respected web heads in the industry, globally.
The days were split into two tracks, almost as if to tease out the technical folks from the design type folks, quite often I found my technical side winning out, although I did go to a few design focused tracks. Whatever anyone says about web design and what makes a good designer for the web, you need a very good grasp of the technicallities involved with web development.
Use the links on the right hand side to read about some of the key presentations at the confrence, I heard on the grapevine that the presentations are going to be podcast. For me the highlights included:
Before I go on though there was a really excellent quote that I’d really like to point out, from the keynote speaker and all round CSS guru, Eric Meyer, which really sums up what drives many progressive web developers to do what they do and kinda sums up the feeling that web development isn't just a job its an exploration of possibilities.
When you have found something no one else in the world has thought of, savour that moment, savour it and then share it
In summary
I look back at the whole event reflecting on web development as a serious progressive industry and can't help but think of all the developers who were not at the confrence and who are unaware of the level to which we now have to think about things before we do them.
