Eclectic doesn’t even come close to some of my listening tastes, acoustic music is one of my passions, I love listenable, intelligent and quite frankly awesome acoustic artists. So I wanted to blog and stand up for this type of music, which the label of acoustic music may at first seem quite bland; it need not be boring and on the contray it can seriously kick!
Kick back, and get ready to be blown away, if you like Newton Faulkner, you have just found the blog post of your life!
Julia Harris
An awesome singer songwriter from Cardiff setting up independantly and findable on iTunes, I was amazed when I saw her in Worcester and charmed that she allowed me to podcast a couple of tracks! Julia has a track called “These Days” and I challenge you not to sing along at the end. Urban Acoustic is one way I’ve heard her music described, it’s just so infectious and very rhythmic.
Kaki King
This video I assure you, isn’t one you want to skip over, give it a watch and be amazed. I’ve only within 24 hours of blogging this up, discovered Kaki King! Shocking I know, but it’s just so easy to miss the gems as the mainstream hardly gives this type of music a look in. Guitar tapping was an early style of hers, producing rythmic instrumental tracks that later gave way to layered looping vocal tracks. The following video is a track called Playing With Pink Noise, I’m still stunned by her talent with the guitar style, early on in the discography, very much like Andy Mckee.
Andy Mckee
Ok yeah he’s in certain circles quite famous, however worth posting a video to introduce him in case you’ve never heard any of his stuff. Like the artist above, he’s very much into the fingerstyle guitar tapping, rythmic playing. The very first moment I heard Heather’s Song I knew I had a new audioscrobbler addiction, it’s just such a great track and the guitarwork isn’t too intense so it should be very listenable indeed. I couldn’t find an embeddable video on his youtube account, but this is the video I wanted to embed.
Kings of Convenience
My all time fave acoustic artists, a duo from Norway, very soothing but often never dull! You kinda just wanna pick em em and put em in your pocket they are so sweet. Again following a trend of removing the embed option on youtube, I’ll have to show you a live version of Peacetime Resistance, from their latest and by far greatest album yet, Declaration of Dependence! They’ve gone all Bossa Nova on us :)
So there you have it, proof acoustic music isn’t dull and bland. If you’re on last.fm I’ll be hanging out as duracell80 and the same name on blip.fm.
